More than a decade ago, I met Blake Mycoskie, the founder of Tom’s Shoes, when he was a resident in Venice, California and was still promoting his then-small-business with its strong tie to giving back. He was first a vendor, then later a sponsor, with the Abbot Kinney Festival, one of my firm’s clients at the time. I later met him when my other client Cheech Marin participated in a shoe-signing event with Tommy Chong to support Tom’s Shoes charitable initiatives.
Now, after selling a 50% stake in his popular shoe brand known for its philanthropy, Mycoskie has started a unique wellness program called Madefor with his business partner Pat Dossett, a former Navy Seal. Working with a team of professionals known for their expertise in science and health, including a Harvard psychiatrist and Stanford neuroscientist, they created a ten-month program that applies the principles of modern neuroscience, psychology and physiology to make your brain and body better.

With Madefor‘s themed months on Gratitude, Rest, Nature, Fuel, Connection, Clarity, Breath, Vision, Hydration, and Movement, I am looking to gain better habits. Even more, I am looking to cultivate a more resilient mind to achieve greater success and peace in my life.
At the beginning of each month, a new kit is shipped to participants. In addition to a thoughtfully crafted physical tool to disconnect you from your digital devices and carve out time to discover your best self, each kit contains a challenge focused on introducing small changes designed to be easily integrated into your life. Reviewing the kit is supposed to take about 45 minutes to an hour initially with no interruptions or distractions. Then, the challenge extends over 21 days. I am one of those new participants, and my first one arrives in time for me to start in May.
Stay tuned as I share my thoughts here about experiencing Madefor firsthand.
