CauseConnect announces a new client and a new project in Houston, Texas. Melissa Richardson Banks is working with the internationally renowned Rothko Chapel to produce the nonprofit’s 2024 INSPIRIT inspirational dinner, which includes an online benefit art auction on Artsy.
INSPIRIT takes place on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at The Astorian. Central to the inspirational evening is a program featuring actor and art advocate Cheech Marin, legendary civil rights advocate and labor organizer Dolores Huerta, and 2023 Texas artist of the year Vincent Valdez in conversation on the important relationship between art and activism in addressing today’s critical social justice and equity issues.
As the founding donor to The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture of the Riverside Art Museum, Cheech Marin seeks to share Chicano art beyond California and Texas with the rest of the world and to help create “a venue for dialogue around the questions of identity, representation, gender-neutral terminology” and of course, what exactly is Chicano art. Co-founder of the United Farm Workers Association, Dolores Huerta is one of the most influential labor activists of the 20th century. Vincent Valdez is a contemporary American artist known for powerful and thought-provoking paintings exploring identity, social justice, and U.S. history.
Following the program, guests are welcome to continue the conversation at their table alongside dinner. Proceeds support the Rothko Chapel’s mission to create opportunities for spiritual growth and dialogue that illuminate our shared humanity and inspire action leading to a world in which all are treated with dignity and respect.
The online benefit art auction launches on Artsy two weeks in advance of the dinner starting Thursday, February 22 and continuing through Thursday, March 7, 2024. Representing prominent artists in Texas and in the Chicano art world, artworks range in value from $2,500 to $50,000. To bid, simply create an account online at Artsy.net.
